About Us

Take Advantage Training is a basketball training program brought to you by Ricky Tarrant and Orlando Coleman. The program is designed to help players build skills and knowledge about the game of basketball. Through this program, players will work on all aspects of the game, building a solid foundation to take their skills to the next level. Both Ricky and Orlando have been able to enhance their expertise over several years of playing the game on different levels. They have been a dynamic duo since high school on and off the court. The combination of their experiences through their careers, creates a atmosphere of development and learning of the game. Training with John Lucas and some of the top skill development trainers in the game has allowed them to be able to bring some of that knowledge to their program. They have been fortunate to go up against some of the best players from college to the professional level, such as Trevor Lacey, Levi Randolph, Nate Robinson, KJ McDaniel’s, Glenn Robinson Jr. just to name a few. Take Advantage Training offers a wide-range of services across the nation such as: Personal Training, Group Training, Skill Academies, Team Trainings, and Mentoring program.

These camps are designed to bring out the best in children: develope skills, increased respect for sportsmanship, enhanced fundamental athletic abilities, and a deeper understanding of the game, teamwork and responsibility.

Leadership
Mentoring Program

Our Leadership Mentoring Program allows our active athletes to gain further insight into becoming a professional athlete. The experiences we have consumed in our career allows us to help guide players' in each stage of their career.

Take Advantage Training provides an opportunity for players to learn how to become pros on and off the court. Becoming a sponsor or making a donation to Take Advantage Training will allow us to continue the growth of our program and continue to provide for our athletes.

About Ricky Tarrant

Ricky Tarrant is the son of Glenene and Ricky Tarrant Sr. He is from Birmingham, AL where he graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 2011. In high school Ricky was a three-time captain and earned league and team MVP honors as a sophomore, junior and senior. He was also named the state of Alabama Class 5A Player of the Year his senior season, also earning the Metro Player of the Year. He started his career off at Tulane University where he scored over 1,000 points in 2 seasons, accumulating league honors such as 1st team all C-USA selection and Freshman of the Year before transferring to the University of Alabama. Ricky played one year for the Crimson Tide. He was the 2nd leading scorer and earned POW honors on a few occasions before graduating and finishing his last year at University of Memphis. Ricky started his professional career in Germany top division for S. Oliver Baskets before coming back to the United States to play with the Red Claws in the NBA developmental league. Ricky stayed with the team for a short period of time before teaming up with his high school friend/teammate Orlando Coleman in the NBL- Canada (KW Titans). Ricky was nominated as an early rookie of the year candidate. Ricky then moved on to finish his rookie year in Venezuela for the Gigantes as a top scorer in the league, averaging 18ppg.

About Orlando Coleman

Orlando Coleman is the son of Chaunty and Marcus Coleman. He is from Birmingham, AL where he graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 2011. In high school Orlando Coleman averaged 15.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists en route to earning All-West Metro First Team honors as a senior. The Spartans compiled a 32-3 record that included a 30-game winning streak and advanced to regional finals. He capped the year by being invited to the North/South All-Game. Orlando also helped the Spartans to their 2nd final4 appearance his senior year. He started his collegiate career off at Alabama Southern CC, where he finished 6th in the nation in rebounding and tied for 28th in points per game. He also finished top 20 at the JUCO Elite 80 Showcase in July 2012. Coleman was ranked 77th overall by JUCORecruiting.com in their Top 100 JUCO players for 2013 averaging 19pts and 12rbg on season before transferring to Kennesaw State University. Coleman rose as one of the top newcomers to the Atlantic Sun Conference. He was the 2nd leading scorer and rebounder for the Owls. Coleman was also a two-year captain while also earning academic honors. Coleman graduated from Kennesaw State and finished his final collegiate career at Texas Southern University. Coleman started every game for the Tigers under coach Mike Davis and helped lead them to a conference regular season championship and NIT tourney appearance. He graduated with his Masters in Health and Human Performance also while playing. Coleman started his professional career in Canada for the KW Titans teaming up with high school teammate Ricky Tarrant. Coleman was an early rookie of year candidate as well. Coleman continued his rookie year in Mexico after Canada, playing for Centauros de Chihuahua in the Chihuahua league and moving on to Caballeros de Culiacan in the Cibacopa league. Coleman was the leading scorer at 34ppg. in Chihuahua and finished top 4 at 24ppg. in the Cibacopa league.
